The stories that appear here are works of fiction, not autobiography. While most of the landmarks and places in these stories exist today and can be visited, I have taken liberties. Fewer liberties than you might imagine, but liberties nonetheless—after all, I don’t have a photographic memory. If you think I’ve misnamed or mislocated some important place or landmark, please set me straight in the comments section below.
Permission has neither been asked nor given for the use of real places in these stories when they appear. For the most part, I have obscured the locations of specific houses* because I felt that this was a more appropriate approach for a work in which fictional characters populate a real neighborhood where homes and family names are often associated for decades. You may think you know where a certain character lives and you may well be right, but I won’t tell. Furthermore, the people who appear in these stories are fictional or used in a fictional context. If any fictional character bears a name that seems to ring a bell, it's strictly coincidental.

* I’ve made an obvious exception for Helsers' Mansion, or so the big house on its own block between Hamblet and Alameda streets at 24th Avenue was called when I was growing up, after the family who lived there at the time. But I have chosen to call the big house by its original and now current name: The Autzen Mansion.
